Design Process, Deliverables, and Milestones

Objectives:

  • Learn about the standard process used to design a new, innovative instructional model

  • Understand how you will apply the design process to implement prototypes in your school and complete your transformation plans

What process will we use to design and test new practices?
You will use a standard, 6-step design process to develop new instructional practices over time. Each step is highly iterative, and the entire process should be repeated until you transform your entire school.
Standard Design Thinking Process
Study Your Needs and Priorities
Define Your Challenge
Brainstorm  & Prototype Solutions
Test and Evaluate Your Approach
Iterate & Expand Your New Practice
What will be expected to deliver by the end of the program?
As you go through the design process, your team will complete three deliverables that document the research and decisions you have made for your transformation.

Step 2:

Apply The Process

I. Workshop Drafting Posters

II. School Transformation Plan

III. Transformation Progress Tracker

The drafting posters help generate and organization ideas for your transformation.

The Transformation Plan is the formal plan that outlines your school transformation approach over 3 years.

The progress tracker is a planning tool for tracking implementation activities and outcomes each year.

Step 3:

Complete

Milestones

When will we be expected to complete sections of our transformation plan?
The MDC design process will lead you through the design of one priority area, while you incrementally complete sections of your transformation plan for all priority areas.

Part II:

Transformation Practices

Part I:

Call for Transformation

Tasks

As a whole team: (15 minutes)

1. Make one team copy of the Transformation Plan and Progress Tracker
Click on the links in Step 2 above, rename the files for your school, share it with your team, and save it your school's Google Drive. Share each document with Samir as well.
2. Schedule a recurring time for your design team to check in on plan progress and receive feedback from key stakeholders (invite Samir to these sessions)
The creation of your plan will be a collaborative effort. Your team will need to meet regularly to stay on track. You will also need to set up a School Transformation Committee who you will provide regular updates to regarding your planning progress. This committee should be comprised of school staff, parents, and district personnel.
3. Elect a Document Manager and assign the completion of each section of the Transformation Plan to various team members in the Plan Drafting Schedule
The document managers will responsible for
  • Owning the transformation plan and progress tracker.
  • Consolidating drafted sections from other team members into the final plan
  • Recording workshop notes into the transformation plan and progress tracker
  • Using the Plan Drafting Schedule to track completion progress of each section of the plan.
